Be Careful When Submitting To Free Directories
One of the feeds that I subscribe to is the Directory Solicitations & Announcements sub-forum at Digital Point.
As long as the keywords are correct I'm happy to submit to a small free directory as long as it is not full of spam - and frankly, most directories posted up in that place are.
I always search the directory advertised first by using keywords such as viagra, sex and gambling, and they usually fall foul of these checks; as an example, or viagra, porn, gambling and poker as some more.
It's not advisable to be linked from a whole host of these free-for-alls, and it certainly doesn't do your SEO campaign any good in the long-run.
Basically, before you submit to a free directory make sure they have some sort of editorial policy and don't link out to bad neighbourhoods.
And as for semi-automated directory submission software like DigiXmas, don't even bother going there.

I use to link to many of them in the past and some what lost a interest for finding these kind of directories on the net to submit my site.

Thanks for these tips. I hadn't thought to search for these things, but will now.
I have submitted to quite a few free directories in the past, and they certainly do work. I've seen my rankings for keywords that I've put in the anchor text slowly creep up the rankings.
I have used a bit of a scatter-gun approach, though. I figured it was better to do that than research every directory thoroughly, which would drive you crazy. However, doing a search like you suggest is a good idea, and easy to do.
